January Fishtrap Aran Cardigan
Well, after two months of knitting and planning, the January Fishtrap Aran Cardigan is here! Let’s look at the pictures first, then I’ll go into detail.

For some reason, WordPress is very selective about what photos I can upload today. Oh well. Now for the details.
This sweater was knit using 5 skeins of Cascade 220 wool. When I say 5 skeins, I really mean 5 skeins; there was only a few yards left. I used size 6 needles, had a gauge of about 4.5 sts per inch. I used EZ’s Fishtrap pattern from The Knitter’s Almanac, and her raglan pattern from the Opinionated Knitter. The only part I’m dis-satisfied with is the collar. Had I followed EZ’s directions closer, it would probably look better. I might pick up the stitches along it and do a shawl collar with an extra buttonhole, but it works for now. The body was 210 sts around, including 4 steek sts. The sleeves started out at 42 sts, then increased up to 68. When I joined the sleeves and body to form the yoke, I shifted the cables towards the center of the body. Then I made my raglan decreases on either side of the cable. I decreased until there were only 10 sleeve sts left, then I steeked. ( I should have kept following EZ’s directions and continued working the back, but alas, I did not. Always trust EZ)
That’s pretty much all the details. I’m very happy with it, and hoping that Florida has a cold front soon so I can wear it. I’ve already started the February Baby Sweater, so I should be on track for March.

This is wodnerful – beautiful knitting, colour, and very flattering.
That turned out great! I love the color!
it is beautiful! i am still working on mine and trying to decide exactly how i want to join the sleeves to the body. i love raglans, and was excited to see yours! i do not have the opinionated knitter, and i am wondering does EZ give guidance instructions on how to do the fishtrap with raglans, or were you able to figure out the raglan decreases from her suggestions?
again, your sweater is beautiful. i hope mine turns our as nice.
and yes, i live in florida too, and everyone laughs at me for knitting in wool all the time. i just can’t get the northern out of me!
Wow, it’s gorgeous. Love the color. Congratulations!
