Should they stay or should they go?

Can you fall out of love with something beautiful?  Because I’m afraid I may have.  I was so excited about my Fluevog Fiorenzas when I first saw them.  They were my graduation present to myself.  But I need to be honest, since I got them back in June, I’ve only worn them about five times.  I’ve paired them with orange and denim, with turquoise, orange and black, and with black and white.   But I haven’t found any other combinations besides that.

While they are beautiful shoes, I really don’t wear them as often as they deserve.  It might just be that I’m not really drawn to the color orange.  If I sold them to someone else, they might get worn more often, and then I could use the money towards some new shoes that I would wear more.

I’m also considering eventually getting them in turquoise, which is a color I wear much more frequently than orange.

So what do you think.  Should I go ahead and sell these shoes on Ebay, and get some new shoes that I’ll wear more?  Or should I hang on to these and try to learn to love orange?

  1. I think they are adorable fun shoes and in a perfect world I would say keep them. That being said though, I can see how they could be difficult to style and therefore maybe not as much fun to keep around. If you really don’t think you’ll get much use out of them then I say trade ‘em in for something you will.

  2. They are lovely shoes and my first impulse would be to wear them with brown or even with gray.
I think you should give them one more try.

  3. Oh, girl, there are not enough beautiful and comfortable shoes in this world to be getting rid of some that easily! :-)

I think you should keep them. These are a classic style that will last you for years. You said yourself in a previous post that many Fluevogs are like art–if you still like seeing them in your closet, keep them and don’t fret about how frequently you wear them. Their cost-per-wear may be high for a while, and only be a real bargain in the long-term. They are investment shoes, though

Also, you say that if you sold them, you could use the money for a different pair. Is there any chance that you’re feeling the money pinch during your self-imposed spending ban? If so, I’d look for another way to increase your income or decrease your expenses, rather than trading in these shoes. Don’t let go of quality, if you have a choice.

That said, I firmly believe that clothes should give you pleasure. If you look at them and feel burdened rather than happy, then be grateful that you could enjoy them for a while and let them go. (Ah, if only letting go of ex-boyfriends were so easy! ;-)

  4. sell them, and get some new ones to fall in love with, change is inevitable. Don’ t keep something you won’t love. Right?

  5. i’m not much of an orange person, so i say trade em in! get the ones in turquoise. dont’ force yourself to love them or wear them. fashion should be fun, not a duty. just my 2 cents

  6. I have 3 pairs of Fluevog shoes (red/pink, tri-shade turquoise, green) and 3 boots (grey, red, black) The red/pink and tri-shade turquoise and red boots are items I don’t wear often, but I do adore them would not get rid of them. My rationale has always been that as Fluevogs are so distinct they are never actually in style so they will never go out of style.
I also think in my case it comes from a childhood where certain items of clothing were saved “for good”. I have to try harder to wear items I adore – maybe deep down I am worried about wearing out the “for good” items.
In my opinion wearing a turquoise outift with turquoise shoes is way to matchy matchy. Rock those babys with orange + khaki, orange + grey, and with all the shades of blue you wear especially turquoise!
If you still don’t love them and if they are an 8.5 then send me an email and I’ll take them off your hands!! ;)

  7. I would keep them, I agree that they are like art. They are also a memento of a special time in your life (but then I’m sentimental like that).

And I know you can get creative with how to wear them more – you are the one who inspired me to get my purple Pearl Harts! I would wear these shoes with turquoise in my wardrobe – I love the turq+orange combo!

  8. If you can afford to sell the orange ones and buy the turquoise ones right away, I think you’d get more use out of the turquoise ones.

If you have to wait either way (ie, must save up either way), then I think maybe keep ‘em. They’re gorgeous shoes, with lots of character. I hope one day I’ll be able to get a pair of Fleuvogs. Thanks for turning me on to them!

  9. Keep. Turquoise would be too matchy for many of your tops and dresses. Besides, sometimes there are shoes that aren’t supposed to be worn weekly, we own them so we can wear them when we need that extra oomph.

  10. well…sell them if you think you really won’t wear them. but….i think they’d look fabulous with outfits incorporating navy and/or turquoise or aqua. maybe you have already tried this combination though!

  11. Those are gorgeous shoes. I am drawn to orange though. If you think you’d get more wear out of the turquoise, trade on up. Or, hang on to the orange and pair them with all your blue tops. Blue and orange is a great combination! Then, someday, invest in the turquoise pair as well.

If you do decide to ditch the orange ones, I’d be happy to take them off your hands!
